Exclusive Artist to Watch Interview With K’Lecor

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is K’Lecor and I was born and raised in Chicago currently living in Atlanta.

What is unique about you and your music?

What’s unique about me is that I am a classically trained opera singer.  I have a wide range vocally and my voice not only has power but it also has the strength to move individuals. As far as my music, it gives variety. It doesn’t just stick to one specific genre of music. My music can be categorized in any genre of music and gets the attention of all people no matter what ethnicity they are.

What shaped your music?

My music was shaped from my experiences with life. I write all of my music and everything I talk about in my music I have experienced. I was told by one of my mentors that the more you go through in life the more you have to say. This statement is true because the more I experience in life the m ore I have to say and express in my music.  I am only 25 and I have experienced a lot from love, happiness, heartbreak, death, portrayal, and humiliation. What I do to overcome those obstacles that I have faced in life is take those experiences and I write about them. I create music to help myself along with other individuals who are experiencing the same thing or similar situations.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I realize this when I was 5 years old. I knew that I was going to be a singer. My mom realized that I can sing at the age of three when I was singing Mary J. Blige’s version of I’m Goin’ Down. I started performing and taking voice lessons along with piano lessons at the age of five.  Music was always my destiny and my passion.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to all kinds of music; pop, r&b, hip hop, trap music, rock, country, techno, electronic, jazz, soul, and classical music.

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

I have to say Teyana Taylor. This young woman is a triple threat. I feel as if she is not showcase as much as the other performing artists. This woman can sing, dance, and act. I would love to see more of her and would love to work with her.

Who would you collab with out of any Artist or Producer?

There are so many artist and producers that I would love to work with. This list can be quit long but just to name a few are Kanye, Timbaland, Pharell, J. Cole, Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Pink, Jidenna, Janelle Monae and etc.

What ignites your writing & creative juices?

The answer is life. Life has so much to offer and has a lot that needs to be said about it. Writing about life to me is my therapy. This helps me to figure out who I am as a person.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I like to go shopping, movies, bowling, game arcades, dancing and spas. I am passionate about all those things. I feel as if doing those things is what makes me human.

If you weren’t making music professionally, what would you be doing?

I would definitely be either an entrepreneur or a criminal justice lawyer. I would definitely have a business in fashion because I love clothes, jewelry, and shoes. The reason I say lawyer is because I love to debate and study law.

Success to you is….

Success is about happiness and being able to give back to others. It also means to have a peace of mind and being able to spread God’s love.  Most importantly, success has to do with liking yourself.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help an artist starting out?

I wish I was told that being an artist is not easy. It takes many sacrifices and losing some people that were once close to you. It comes with jealous and hateful people. This industry will contain some disappointments but overall it will sometimes have you feeling like you want to give up. After you face all the bad things there is nothing but greatness at the end.

Any upcoming projects or tracks you are a part of?

I dropped my first single “Hold Me Down” and will release my next single “Revolution” on May 25, 2018. I am finishing up my EP which will drop on August 31, 2018 called L’élu.
