Exclusive Artist To Watch Interview With “D-Justice”

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My Name is D-Justice and I rep Portland, Oregon the “RIP CITY” 503

What is unique about you and your music?

My music really brings a modern day feel combined with the nostalgia of the late 90’s early 2000’s west coast hip-hop

What shaped your music?

Growin up in a poor community where many of my friends used to get together and we would just joke around dissin each other and havin fun comin up with creative metaphors, similes, and rhyme schemes

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to classic rock, funk, soul, jazz, classical, disco, and all forms of rap and hip/hop

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

DJ Quik

How do you prepare for your performances?

For performances, I spend most of my evenings when I am going to lay down for the night, closing my eyes listening to the concert traccouts, and visioning myself on the stage of the venue im about to perform, coming up with my routine and having it scripted in my mind before the performance.

What ignites your (song) writing flow?

The frustration of the division of all people based on belief systems that categorize themselves into a label, whether it be political, religious, or any other class system. The necessity to maintain our livelihoods based on financial needs is something that I will always have a desire to change. A system of governance based on hate, fear, and capitalism, rather than unconditional love for all and a communal way of living too.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are
passionate about?

I study books, ancient wisdom, history, documentaries. I also like to go out in different communities and just talk to random people to get a sense of others personalities, motives, and getting to understand others mindsets.

Success to you is…
Having my name and message talked about centuries after I my physical being on earth is no longer.

Any upcoming projects?

My debut album Higher Education is available on 4/20/18
